The Olympic Games held in London opened on 27 July 2012 with a production directed by Danny Boyle with the theme ‘Isle of Wonders’. While scouting the day before on the Wednesday for a good spot to photograph the fireworks from outside the Olympic park, I was given a ticket for the technical rehearsal of the opening ceremony. The London Olympics Opening Ceremony was impressive and bonkers. I must say that seeing the production inside the stadium was more impressive as what you can experience watching it on TV. Although parts had been left out like the James Bond sequence and Mr Bean to keep people revealing the surprise. I have put a selection of images together to give a short impression.
Green and Pleasant Land
The green and pleasant scene was replaced very quickly by he ‘Pandemonium’ of the Industrial Revolution.
After the Industrial Revolution the National Health Service was shown off in a wacky sequence of hospital beds and children’s fairy tales with all kind of animations in the lighting system on the grandstand which were difficult to photograph by great to see.
The rest was a compilation of scenes of modern Britain throughout the 60s 70s till modern Time with clips from the Music Industry Films and Television.
As I mentioned a few surprises were left out Like the James Bond Sequence. When seeing the Opening I recognised the helicopter from some images I took in June where they where flying up and down along the Thames, I guess they were filming the Helicopter sequence used in the James Bond ‘Happy and Glorious’ part of the opening.
